it's about time

Gah. I've become such a terrible blogger. I believe an update is in order.

School is out. Thank you Lord! I don't think I've ever wanted a break so badly in my life. The past week in a half I've pretty much been a slug. Other than work, I've done nothing productive. Absolutely nothing. (Well...unless you count reading and watching tons of Netflix.) It's amazing.

I watched The Hobbit. It was absolutely fantastic. I haven't read the book. Actually, I haven't read anything relating to The Lord of the Rings. But I'm a die hard fan of the movies. And The Hobbit definitely lived up to The Lord of the Rings awesomeness.

With there being a lovely break from school, I made myself a list of things to do.
     1) Start guitar lessons. My sister who is amazing agreed to teach me. So far I know the A chord and the Em chord. We aren't real far along in our lessons, but we're getting there. Exciting!

     2) Read Les Misérables. I probably won't finish it during winter break. It's 1,463 pages. O_o But my goal is to finish before the new movie leaves theaters. I've been watching the trailer over and over. Gosh, it looks fabulous.

    3) Spend lots of time with this dear girl.
So far, Bethany and I have had a sleep over, watched lots of Doctor Who, and got our hair cut together. On Sunday we're eating out at Pizza Hut and exchanging Christmas gifts. Can't wait!

Christmas is in three days. THREE. And I don't even have all my shopping done. I'm such a slacker. I plan on finishing up this afternoon though. Hopefully. And wrapping everything. Hopefully.

Downton Abbey season three comes out on DVD on January 29th. And I'm #4 in the hold list at the library. Eek! Excited!

Well...that's all from me. How about you? How is your winter break going?

just writing...

It's been a while.

Today I had kinda a stinky day.  So I thought I'd log in and just write...just write.

School's almost over for the semester and I'm about to jump for joy.  Next week I have finals.  The only one I'm really worried about is my anatomy final.  It's the only one that's cumulative.  Cumulative-ness scares me a bit.  Will my brain be able to retain that much information?  Part of me thinks it's entirely impossible.  But this girl's gonna try!...and study herself crazy.

It is officially decided.  I have some ah-mazing friends.  Like mentioned above, I had kinda a stinky day.  Well, maybe a couple stinky days...in a row.  And my superly fantastical, God given friends were there for me.  I love them.

Work has been swell.  Pretty consistent really.  Except that I am losing my best working buddy.  She's up and decided to move!  Shame on her.  Naw, joking, joking.  It's a good opportunity.  Best wishes to you, dearie.

So I'm reading back over this post and it's feeling pretty random and unorganized.  Aw well...

Hope you dearies have a splendid weekend. *smiles*

ketchup

Hello all!

Ag!  It's been a while.  I'm feeling a catch up post coming on...

I am a college student.  Anybody else out there experiencing full time college for the first time?  Mind blowing!  Some days I'll get home and not have hardly any homework and get to read all day long.  "College life is amazing!"  Then other days I'll have tons of things to do in a day and a half on top of my job.  "Panic attack!"  But overall, I'm really enjoying my college career.  Anatomy and Physiology is tough.  I'm in love with my English class.  And I get lots of exercise walking from class to class and then to my car.  Today I got a really good parking spot and I felt like doing a happy dance.

I just finished reading an amazing book.  It's called Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. Wow.  It is incredibly thought provoking.  It's a Christian Non-Fiction and talks about repainting the Christian faith.  I definitely recommend it....but to those who are really grounded in your faith.  It touches on some major topics.

Still crazy about Doctor Who.  My sister and I actually redecorated our bathroom into a Doctor Who theme.  *grins*  I'm in the middle of season three now.  And, I'll try not to ruin it for anyone watching it currently, but the end of season two was probably one of the saddest things I have ever watched.  I cried.  And it took me a good while to move onto season three.  But, I'm okay now!  I'm getting used to Martha...she's nice.  Different.  But nice.

If you would, take a moment and click on this link here.  Walking on Sonshine is my best friend's newly established blog.  I'll love you forever if you'll go check it out.  It's pretty great!

October Baby comes out on dvd today.  I saw it in theaters and thought it was just splendid.  I'm very tempted to go out and buy it.  I might, just might, go do it...then I can have a movie night tonight.

Before I close this post and hit the 'publish' button, I wanted to take moment to say something about today, 9/11.  It's been eleven years.  I pray that we all remember that tragic day and the lessons it taught us as a country.  I also pray for the grieving families out there that lost loved ones in the attacks.  You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Blessings to you all!  Have a super fantastic day.

one summer

{mini golf}
{not my photo}
Last night I got to hang out with my church small group.  We met up at a place called GolfLand and went go-karting and miniature golfing.  It was a blast!

I was talking to my mom and brother, Zach, before I left for mini golf and I said, "Maybe this will be it!  Maybe golf will be my sport."  If you know me well...and even if you don't...you probably know that I'm not good at sports.  I will freely admit that I stink at them all.  Ever single one.  Seriously.  It's pretty sad.  There's a running joke in my family that the only "sport" I'm good at is walking.  Yeah... You got the picture.  Me and sports are just not compatible.  And after 45 minutes of mini golf I can safely say I can add it to my list of "Sports Katie Stinks At".  It's official.  But I had lots of fun. That counts for something right?  Guess I'd better stick with my books though, eh?

{orange leaf}
{not my photo}
Frozen yogurt has got to be my new favorite snack.  I went to Orange Leaf for the first time yesterday, and oh my goodness gracious, it was amazing.  Definitely going back.  And soon.

{brave}
{not my photo}
I really, really, really want to see this movie!  I'm counting down the days 'til June 22nd when it releases.  I believe my sister and I are going to make a day of it and go see it together.

{the jane austen book club}
The Jane Austen Book Club (with no relation to the book or movie) is something that Zach actually came up with.  (Love him!)  We were driving home from a gathering a few nights ago and he up and says "We should read all of Jane Austen's book this summer.  We can make a book club."  I was like, "Genius!  Let's do it!"

We're starting with "Persuasion", a small one, since we got a bit of a late start in June.  But, goodness, I am so excited!  Be expecting some book reviews and such on here soon.

Two siblings.  Six books.  One summer.

when you feel magic

The other night I up and decided, "You know.  I think I need some ice cream."  Zach and I hop in Waldo and take a DQ run.  Dairy Queen is all of two minutes from our front door.  This can be amazing...at times.  Until you realize that your pay check can very easily dwindle to nothing because you gave it all to Dairy Queen in exchange for blizzards.  But this particular night, I didn't care.  I just wanted some ice cream.  Some rich chocolatey goodness.

We swing through the drive through and I order my blizzard.  Medium Chocolate Xtreme.  The usual.  As we head back towards our house, I look over at Zach.  "I'm not ready to go home yet.  Wanna go someplace else?"  {Sidenote:  When I started driving, I made a discovery.  There are not very many places to hang out in my town.  I mean, you can only go to Books-A-Million so many times, folks.}  I decided I'd pull over in a small back road and just sit.  So I parked on the roadside and turned off Waldo except for the radio playing faintly in the background.  Zach opened the sunroof and I rolled down my window.  I ate my blizzard and just sat.

It was almost magical.  Scratch that...it was magical.  At least for me it was.  I felt like I was in a story book.  Peering through the sunroof at the clouds and the birds.  Feeling the slight breeze as I stuck my head out the window.  Beautiful.

Monday Night Musings

I've started journaling again.  Inspired by this post, I went out and found a couple of notebooks on sale.  Who doesn't love shopping for notebooks right?

So far I've only started writing in one.  It's my new prayer journal.  I'll be honest with you...  Prayer has always been my weakest point in my relationship with God.  Which is kinda sad...communication is pretty important.  They say it's the key to good relationship.  I just seem to have this mind that likes to wander...a lot.  So I thought, why not write them down?  Plus I like to think that God is reading over my shoulder. ;)

That's just a little bit of Monday night randomness.  Or musings, rather.  What are you up to tonight?

...and her name is Minnie.

This is Minnie.

My brand new Mac.

Unfortunately, she came with the death of my laptop.  But, with that out of the way, I am quite in love with her.  She is a Mac Mini.  Hence her name.

I wanted to introduce her to you all.  She'll be my new blogging buddy.

So, everyone say hi Minnie!

Minnie says hi back. :)

i'm a romantic.

I had the idea for this post laying in bed a few nights ago.  This may sound really strange, but go with me for a few minutes.

You know those moments when you walk by something, or do something, or watch something happen and just think, "That could totally fit right into a black and white movie or an old classic."?  Something that's unique...something that maybe reminds you of days past?  I think that those moments are special.  Romantic even.  These are just a few things that make me think...yes, I am a romantic.

wind blown curls
cursive writing
enjoying the fact you have to walk through the rain
old books
reading in a coffee shop...while drinking coffee of course
handwritten letters
flowers tucked into locks of hair
book stores
finding happiness in the smallest of things
packages in the mail with your name on them
unique sunglasses
splashing in a rain puddle

It's a beautiful world out there.  Don't miss it.

Any fellow romantics out there?

this and that

Whoa.  It's been a week and a half since I've posted.  I'm sorry for suddenly disappearing on you all without any warning.
So...after rewriting this a couple times, here are my thoughts.  I think that every blogger comes to a point when they realize they may be blogging because they feel like they have to.  That time is now for me.  I want to blog because I want to, not because I feel like I need to.  With that in mind, you may see a little less of me on here.  Or I could go back to writing as normal.  I'm not real sure yet.  I do plan on stickin' around, though. ;)

Okay!  With that said and done...here's a bit of random to brighten the mood. ;)

{pinterest}
Oh yeah.  I now have a pinterest.  And guess who's addicted?  That's right.  This girl is.  Anybody else out there suffering from a pinterest addiction?

{beauty and the beast...in 3-D!}
I really want to see this in theaters!
{not my photo}
The end.

{winter jam}
Winter Jam is coming up and I'm really excited!  There are some really amazing artists coming this year.  It's gonna be great!  Anybody else planning on going or have already gone?

Hope you all have a super weekend!

Bye for now.

Who is Me?

Me is someone who changes often.  Me looked very different at the start of this blog than she does now.  A good different, I hope.
Me is someone who loves pumpkin spice candles. Whose style is a mix between cute and weird.  Someone who loves laying in her bed with a good book and soft music playing in the background.  Me is someone who has best friends she's never met in person...some of whom don't exist but in book form.
Me is someone who is quiet to many people.  But behind the scenes, she'll dance and skip and sing into her curling iron when she thinks no one's looking (with the exception of this dear one).
Me is someone that is in love with her Jesus. She realizes that her life would be a lot different if it wasn't for Him. It's a great thing to know Someone's always looking out for you, isn't it?

Me is someone who has learned so much about books she's never read by being around them everyday.  She's a girl who loves her job.  But who knows what the future has in store?  Me knows Someone who does.
I am Me.  Who are you?

P.S. I got a bit of a spur of the moment hair cut the other day.  I, personally, love it.  Thoughts?  (I know there isn't a real good picture showing the length in this post...will try to post more soon.)

P.P.S. My computer is currently out of commission.  That is why my watermark is absent.

Hold on to your dreams...don't ever let go.

-I bought a new pair of sunglasses.  Don't worry...I didn't lose or break my other ones.  (Score!)  I just saw these at Target and pretty much fell in love.  I may be a little obsessed....just a little. ;)

-I love my new job!  Like seriously love.  I am so blessed!
-I've been listening to Addison Road a lot here recently.  I really like their "Stories" album.  I think my favorite song is this one... (My post title includes some of the lyrics.)

-I'm a senior this year!  Whoa!  I'm really excited!  And guess what...I have my first senior meeting with my senior class to discuss senior-y things next month.  I'm pumped!  (And yes I did just fit the word senior into a sentence three different times.  Haha!)
-Bokeh has quickly become one of my fascinations.  I love it!  {Side note: I obviously totally missed my face in this photo so ignore that...I'm showing it because of the beautiful bokeh. <3}
-If you would please do me a favor and check out a one of my good friend's blogs I'd truly appreciate it...
Emily has a really great ministry and I know she'd be tickled if you checked it out.
-Whoa...what do you all think of the new blogger?  It's pretty different!  I don't know my thoughts on it yet...still trying to get used to it.
-I believe this is all for now...I hope you enjoyed my little list of things.  Have a great rest of your Wednesday.

The End

You lose the moon, then be a star.

Yep, yep! Random post time here on HEllo highLIGHTS!

VolunTeens!
{photo credited to my mom}
Yep, it's that time once again.  I love volunteering at the hospital in my city and this year my brother, Zach, decided to do it with me.  We work in the kitchen together and it's so much fun!

new hair do?

{photos credited to my sister}
I've been doing my hair kinda different every once and a while.  I'll put it in piggy-tails but instead of having them hang down I put them in buns.  So...piggy-buns, I guess?  Haha!

my new shades

I find these glasses quite super.  Thoughts? ;)

Numb3rs
{not my photo}
This is quite possibly my new favorite TV show.  Right up there next to Castle.  A couple of my friends got my family and me hooked on it.

"it's who you are"

My sister and I are learning this song.  I love it and am really excited to sing it with her!  Part of the lyrics I put as the title of this post. :)

That's all for now...talk to you later, dear readers.

P.S. 91 followers!  Getting pretty close to 100...anybody ready for a giveaway/contest? :-D

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

i love.

this ah-mazing lip gloss from bath & body works.
{not my photo}
It's called ultra mint.  My friend got me hooked on it. ;)

when you log onto blogger and find a new comment waiting for you.

a us bank cup.
{not my photo}
Is that weird?  That I like a US Bank cup?  It's just that it's such a great size.  Not too small or too large.  I love drinking sweet tea in it.
Sadly, I don't have a photo.
1. Because I couldn't find one in google images.
2. Because I'm too lazy to go take one of the cup we own. ;)
So...I settled with the US Bank logo.  Hehe ;)

that I can now upload multiple pictures into blogger...at the same time!

I have been waiting for blogger to do this and make uploading pictures so much easier.  And it's finally happened!  *grins*  *happy dance*

mashed potatoes.
I have long since been a lover of mashed potatoes.  They're probably my favorite food.  But, here recently, my mom bought these seriously amazing instant garlic-y mashed potatoes.  (Sorry, I'm not sure of the name...)  Oh my gosh!  Delicious!
{not my photo}
And what's even better, they are super easy take about 2 minutes to fix.  Which is perfect for a non-cook person like me. ;)

What are the things you're loving right now?

It's like you escaped from a Hallmark card...

It's been a while since I've done a random post and I was really in the mood for one.  So...here you are: Katie's Post of Randomness.

sunglasses
Anybody else out there a sunglasses lover?  I just got me a new pair and I think they're my favorite.

Anybody else out there constantly losing their sunglasses?  Yeah....that's me.  I probably have to get new ones every summer. :P
But hey, it's a good excuse to buy a cute pair, is it not? ;)

"the lion king"
This is one of my all time favorite Disney movies.  Mostly because of it's special meaning to me, but it's also a great movie!
{not my photo}
When I was little, my daddy and I would sit in his and mom's bed while my brother and sister were napping and mom was at work and we'd watch Lion King and color.  For hours. <3
Anyway, I hadn't seen it since I was like 6 maybe and a friend of mine recently let me borrow it.  You should have seen my face.  I was ecstatic when they gave me the VHS. ;)  We sat down as a family and watched it and were all like "Aww..."  Hehe, good times.

"enchanted"
While on the subject of Disney movies, I thought I'd talk about this one too.  I love this movie.  And yesterday I was in the mood for a laugh so I put it in.

{not my photo}
There's this one line that always makes me laugh...even though I've watched it like 30+ times.
"It's like you escaped from a Hallmark card or something."  (Hence the title^.)
Hahaha!  *sigh*  Yep, love this movie.

100 followers?
No, I don't have a 100 followers.  I have 79.  79 pretty great followers, if I do say so myself. ;)
So why are you posting about this Katie?
Well, I had the thought the other day, that if I ever did make it to 100 followers I thought it'd be pretty sweet to do another contest/giveaway type thing.  Whatcha think? :)

lowercase letters
I have become kind of intrigued with lowercase letters here recently.  And, if you've noticed, I've kinda started using them in my posts...like the titles and stuff above^.  I'm still a grammar geek, don't get me wrong.  I still spell check everything and usually re-read everything before I post it.  *cough, cough*  Yep, I'm weird. ;)
But anyway, lowercase letters are kinda cool I think.  What do you think?  Am I the only one?

Well, that's all for now...hope everybody has a great Monday! :)

Hello, my name is Georgia.

I'd like to formally introduce to my newest stuffed animal.  A lady bug.  Which I thought was quite appropriate.  My nickname is Katie Bug.  Hehe ;)

Bloggy friends, this is Georgia.
Georgia, these are my bloggy friends.

But!  She's not just a stuffed animal!  She's a pillow pet!  See...

She's a pillow.

And now a pet. :)

Aren't they the coolest?  Hehehe ;)  I got her for my birthday from a couple of my friends and I just came up with her name last night.  It made me happy.  I'm quite positive Georgia is going to be BFFs with Kaela's dolphin, Gregory, and my brother Logan's penguin, Jo Jo, also pillow pets. ;)

Ok...enough of my weirdness for tonight.  Ha!

Do any of you have a pillow pet?  Or maybe two?  Three? ;)
